چکیده

We consider the outer approximation problem of finding a minimum radius ball enclosing a given intersection of at most n− 1 balls in R. We show that if the aforementioned intersection has a nonempty interior, then the problem reduces to minimizing a convex quadratic function over the unit simplex. This result is established by using convexity and representation theorems for a class of quadratic mappings. As a byproduct of our analysis, we show that a class of nonconvex quadratic problems admits a tight semidefinite relaxation.

On the Smallest Enclosing Balls

In the paper a theoretical analysis is given for the smallest ball that covers a finite number of points p1, p2, · · · , pN ∈ R . Several fundamental properties of the smallest enclosing ball are described and proved. Particularly, it is proved that the k-circumscribing enclosing ball with smallest k is the smallest enclosing ball, which dramatically reduces a possible large number of computati...

An extension theorem for finite positive measures on surfaces of finite‎ ‎dimensional unit balls in Hilbert spaces

A consistency criteria is given for a certain class of finite positive measures on the surfaces of the finite dimensional unit balls in a real separable Hilbert space. It is proved, through a Kolmogorov type existence theorem, that the class induces a unique positive measure on the surface of the unit ball in the Hilbert space. As an application, this will naturally accomplish the work of Kante...

A new quadratic deviation of fuzzy random variable and its application to portfolio optimization

The aim of this paper is to propose a convex risk measure in the framework of fuzzy random theory and verify its advantage over the conventional variance approach. For this purpose, this paper defines the quadratic deviation (QD) of fuzzy random variable as the mathematical expectation of QDs of fuzzy variables. As a result, the new risk criterion essentially describes the variation of a fuzzy ...

MODELING AND OPTIMIZING THE CORROSIVE WEAR OF STEEL BALLS IN BALL GRINDING MILL

This paper was aimed to address the modeling and optimization of factors affecting the corrosive wear of low alloy and high carbon chromium steel balls. Response surface methodology, central composite design (CCD) was employed to assess the main and interactive effects of the parameters and also to model and minimize the corrosive wear of the steels. The second-order polynomial regression model...
